It may have been a short week, but there were still a lot accomplishments at Greener Village to be proud of. Today we bring you updates on our greenhouses and gardens, invite you to attend an exciting workshop, and give thanks to those who have donated their time, money and energy.
100 Men Who Care Make $12K Donation
Perhaps Fredericton’s manliest philanthropist organization, 100 Men Who Care, made a $12, 000 donation to Greener Village Community Food Centre this week. The funds will be used to set up a watering system and buy professional garden tools for our greenhouses and gardens like multi-row seeders to make our work easier. This year we aim to cultivate 12,000 square feet of greenhouse space in order to provide healthy food options for our clients.
Composting Workshops Give the Scoop on Successful Gardening
This past Saturday, we were proud to host an interactive, hands-on composting workshop with organic gardening specialist Alison Juta. Participants learned the secrets behind turning kitchen scraps and shredded newspaper into super-food for their fruits and vegetables. As an added bonus, we have built up our first compost windrow for our community gardens and we’ve got a great team of volunteers managing our newly developed 3-bin system!
Volunteers Get Our Greenhouses in Gear
Our great garden volunteers are amazing! Many hands really do make light work. Greenhouse #1 has had its beds prepared and it’s ready to be planted! Skillsoft’s volunteer team are helping us to get GreenHouse #2 ready today. Three cheers for our fantastic volunteers!
