Target Volunteers1

We’d like to give a big thank you to the volunteer team from Target that came to work with us this week. The Target team helped us transplant seedlings and worked with our native trees. Their hard work will pay off this summer when we begin harvesting fresh produce for our clients.

Our Kitchen in Action

Donna catering

Donna and Shane prepare delicious, nutritious salads.

Our Kitchen volunteers did a wonderful job catering a luncheon for a YMCA fitness group. Did you know that the proceeds from all our catering activities go right back into funding nutritional education programs at Greener Village?

Our Greener Kitchen Plays Host to a Special GMO-Free Lunch

We were proud to host a special GMO-Free lunch in association with New Brunswick Community Harvest Gardens and the Genetically Engineered Foods and Your Health lecture tour. Ingredients for the luncheon were donated by Aura Whole Foods.

We are proud to offer Our Greener Kitchen as a community gathering place.

Kate MacKay and Cliff Gunn (also a member of Community Food Mentors) were two of the wonderful volunteers who prepared the meal.

Black bean and sweet potato soup with yogurt and cilantro.

Attendees were eager to discuss their concerns for the future of safe and nutritious food.

Recent Food Drives

Mike Flemming’s Inequality in Society class at STU recently completed a series of fundraisers and advocacy events in our benefit and made a generous donation of food, cash, and books for our new Children’s Lending Library. We are so thankful to have a community of student volunteers willing to lend a hand!

The Lincoln Baptist Church Youth Group completed their annual food drive yesterday. The youth group then paid us a visit to see the work we do and where their donations go. It was a pleasure having them and we’re truly grateful for their support.

Reflections From a Kingswood Student Volunteer

Last week we shared the story of a group of Kingswood University volunteers who came to us to lend a hand preparing our gardens. Today, one of these fantastic students shares her experience with us:

As part of Kingswood University’s Serve New Brunswick day, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Fredericton Food Bank. I thought I would be packing hampers like most people would do at a food bank, but I got to serve in a different area. My classmates and I planted food and made beds for worms. It was fun, hands on, and nice to know that I got to take part in doing something great for the community. Fredericton Food Bank is doing something different; it’s all about caring for community needs. I had a great experience taking part in it.”
